Colour Therapy

Cinch Magazine

In our daily activities with our equine friends, we expose them to a myriad of colours. These colours have their own specific frequency, energetic vibration, and healing properties. These colours, if utilized, can play a dramatic role in a horse’s health and overall well-being.

Colour therapy is an ancient form of healing that was often used in India, Egypt and China. The original treatment protocol was using coloured light for treatment, but today, there are now many additional approaches to healing with colour.

In order to fully comprehend how these treatments work, and the degree to which they work, it is important to have a general understanding of the equine energy field. In addition to the horse’s physical body, he also has a number of different energy bodies, which include the mental, emotional and etheric. On each of these levels, the vibration of colour works.

There are now six ways that you can heal with colour:

1. Shining light
The most traditional form of colour therapy includes the shining of light. You can quite simply shine an appropriately coloured light in the direction of the area you are trying to heal, or in the general direction of your horse.
Light, being energy that carries a frequency, can have a strong impact on sensitive horses, so it is important not to shine coloured light directly at the eyes or force a to look into the light. Doing so could trigger strong responses such as head ache, sharp pain in the eyes or emotional reactions. It is important that the horse can get away from the light when he has had his fill of it. If you must contain him, make sure that the light is not shone upon him for too long periods.

2. Drinking Water
You can also take some of your horse’s regular drinking water and place it in a large glass bowl. Then, with the appropriate colour gel on top of it, set it out in the sun for a couple of hours.  Setting it in the sunlight allows the vibrational frequency of the colour to infuse the water and provide the horse with its healing properties. All you need to do after this is offer the water as a drink from a bucket, or add it to your horse’s existing water.
You could also try colour essences, similar to flower essences, which carry the vibrational frequency of colours. They are made the same way as previously described, but are pre-bottled and ready to use.

3. Tack and Equipment
When choosing tack or riding apparel, always be conscious of the colours you are introducing. The colours of halters, leads, blankets, saddles pads and bandages can all have an impact on your horse’s performance, so it is recommended that you choose them wisely based on your goals and desires. Some horses may require calming colours while others may need much bolder, get-up-and-go colour types. The colour of your riding apparel is important as well. Any colours added to the mix could have an impact on both horse and rider.

4. Environment
The colours you choose for feed bins, stall interiors, trailers and indoor arenas can all also have an influence on your partner. For nervous horses, soothing shades of green or blue could help calm him. Other, low-energy horses may require red for that extra performance boost.

5. Colour-puncture
This method is relatively new. It uses coloured light pens on various body points in order to create powerful healing impulses in the physical and energetic bodies. To treat this way, you should find a practitioner with the proper equipment and training to be effective.

6. Chakra Colours
You can also use the associated colours of the various chakras  to assimilate and express life force energy. Chakras are quite simply energy portals in your horse’s energy body which allow him to receive life force energy. In order to determine which chakra is related to the specific condition you are trying to heal, you may pick the one closest to the problem area, or study chakras in greater depth to determine the relationship. If you hope to aim towards general well-being, you can treat each chakra with its associated colour as a sort of tune up before an important event, or even as a follow up to a stressful time.

Colour therapy might be your answer, or an aid to it, whether you are dealing with undesirable behaviour, emotional issues or physical ailments. When choosing colours for your horse, remember that you know him best, and therefore, you are the best one to determine what colours to use. Remember, colour therapy is no substitute to veterinary care, but is often a wonderful adjunct to it. Always talk to your veterinarian for any concerns you may have to your horse.
